28 Summers

★★★★/5

Genre: Chic-Lit, Beach Read
Read if you like: SUMMER! Dorthea Benton Frank, any of Elin's other books

Well, it's official - summer is finally here! The proof? Elin Hilderbrand released her new book, 28 Summer today, and it's the perfect definition of a summer beach read!

Synopsis: Mallory & Jake fall in love at a young age, but find that their complicated lives prevent them from being together. As a way to make it work, they make a pact to see each other at Mallory's home on Nantucket every Labor Day - no matter what. Life is messy but their unrequited romance keeps them going.

Review: I think this is one of my favorite Hilderbrand books yet (Beautiful Day is still #1 in my heart). Once you get over the fact that the plot isn't very realistic - let's be honest, that's the case for most, if not all, of her books - you get sucked into the story. It feels like Elin evolves a little with each new book - her more recent ones have been less "fluffy" but still bring the sense of escape that you're looking for with her books. I also love that she references Baltimore, DC, Rehoboth and Boston - all places that I adore. Her attention to detail with places and pop-culture references are definitely a major part of her charm as well.

Overall: easy 4/5 for m. A perfect light-hearted summer read.
